Bill Redfern R.M.T.

Bill RedfernBill Redfern has been a member of our clinic since the beginning. When he is not helping our clients, he is very active with his theatre and musical work. Bill is best known for his acting and directing with STAGE 43 in the Tri City area. The main location of their performances is the Evergreen Theatre in Coquitlam. You might wonder about the state of their health though when you discover they rehearse at the old CREACE Building on the Riverview Mental Hospital grounds. In 2002, Bill returned to his love of music and singing when he performed with the Millennium Singers in Pitt Meadows.

Staying current in his profession is also important to Bill.  He has added many skills since graduating from West Coast College of Massage therapy in 1995. These skills come from training in the following:

Muscle Energy Technique
Muscle energy is the manipulation of the skeletal system. The patient is placed in a specific position, then he/she tries to come out of the position while the therapist resists their movement. The muscles then pull the bones into correct alignment.

Muscle Balance and Function
This technique corrects improper posture through exercise. A personalized program is developed according to the specific postural imbalance. Each exercise works with small muscle groups supporting the spine. By retraining the nervous system to activate muscles in the proper sequence, pain caused by improper posture is relieved. The exercises are done daily and take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

Craniosacral I and II
The craniosacral system has a profound effect on health and well-being. The cerebrospinal fluid pressure has a rhythmical motion in the craniosacral system, affecting the skeletal and nervous system of your body. A Therapist palpates the motion of this fluid to relieve conditions such as headaches, ear infections, dizziness, tinnitus, TMJ and dyslexia. The touch is extremely and sensitive. A therapist is able to diagnose the movement of the system as a whole by locating critical points of restriction.

Lymphatic Drainage
The lymphatic system carries a clear fluid throughout the body. This is part of the waste disposal and nutrient supply system that interacts with the blood stream. By applying a circular pumping and draining motion, the drainage paths are cleared. Benefits include reducing edema, calming, pain reduction, and improving the immune system.

Reiki Mastery
Reiki is a Japanese word symbolizing the relationship between Universal life energy and our own personal life force. It adds to the bodies natural ability heal itself from its physical ailments and to release the cause of disease. It is fast becoming recognized as a safe and complimentary therapy to all other forms of health care. Treatments usually last 30-90 minutes. The practitioner simply places hands gently and passively on different locations of the body starting usually at the head.

Touch for Health
Touch for Health is a practical guide to natural health using acupressure, touch and massage to improve postural balance and reduce physical and mental pain and tension. The method uses the the muscles as a bio-feedback mechanism. Muscles are where the mind-body interaction takes place.

Reflexology, Introductory and Intermediate, including Teaching Assistance
By applying precise pressure to areas of the feet or hands, reflexology stimulates our organs, breaking up the lactic acid and calcium crystals that accumulate around the nerve endings in our feet and hands. Reflexology is a natural art of healing, stimulating the internal organs, increasing the circulation and restoring bodily functions to normal.

Neurostructural Integration Technique (NST)
NST is a dynamic bodywork technique which alerts the body and its innate healing system. It is a soft tissue therapy designed to release muscles and fascia in a manner safe for all ages. Treatment consists of the application of sequences of specialized moves on the body in a specific and systematic manner. It is a cross-fibre maneuvering of muscle, tendon and ligament, using varying pressure and incorporating resting periods to allow the body to respond.

Somatic Emotional Release (SER)
SER is an extension of craniosacral therapy. Negative emotions can be retained and stored within our entire body, soma and cellular memory. The purpose of SER is to release these negative emotions. The practitioner places his hands on  head at precise points, then through discussion, imagery and dialogue many of these emotions or cysts are released.

French Release Method
This method is a group of techniques allowing you to identify and release traumas, fears, phobias and anxieties. Emotions are experienced and stored by the body in what is called cellular memory. The cell contains all memories of the entire body’s physical and emotional experience. Traumatic memories are stored in muscle, lymphatic, connective and skeletal systems. The therapist sets up a rhythmic pattern with the client, and then breaks the pattern causing a release.

Yoga
Bill was formerly a member of the Yoga teachers Association and taught Hatha Yoga.
